Our wellness and vaccination programs are designed
to prevent diseases and prolong the lives of your pets. The heart of a healthy pet visit is a conversation about your
options as the owner. We will always perform a thorough physical examination and that is not an option. However,
what you choose to have us do after that is based upon what modern veterinary medicine can offer. We vaccinate based
upon a thorough discussion of disease risk, current knowledge on vaccine duration, and in some cases, what finances will allow.
As an example: While it is mentioned frequently that "distemper" vaccine is less important today,
disease prevention is always less costly than dealing with the treatment of a disease once your pet has developed it.
For instance, Parvovirus treatment can frequently cost $1,000 or more while a single parvovirus vaccination at our clinic
costs under $30.00. Another example: Early diagnosis of a disease process can lead your pet to a longer healthier life.
Kidney disease, if diagnosed early, will allow us to modify your dog or cat's diet and in some cases add supplements th
their diet to potentially extend their lives. Similarly liver disease is better treated early in its course.
We may offer the owner of a senior patient a wellness blood profile to establish the patient's health beyond the capabilities
of a physical examination. This also provides baseline data which can be references in the future for that patient.
