We provide many surgical services at our clinic including routine spay and neuter, soft-tissue surgeries and orthopedic surgeries. Often we refer our patients to specialists in veterinary surgery to perform more complex procedures or if  the owner wishes to have a specialist perform the surgery.  We routinely refer complex fractures requiring special hardware, thoracic, spinal, radical tumor excisions and non routine eye surgeries.

A technician admits your pet in the morning and goes over the plan and options if appropriate.  Next the doctor performs a presurgical exam and finalizes the plan prior to anesthesia.  Most surgical patients are able to be discharged later that day.  Some surgeries may require a longer stay if more pain medicine and injectable antibiotics need to be delivered or if they are performed after noon.

Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring
Anesthesia and patient monitoring varies greatly among clinics.  When you choose your veterinarian, be sure to question the types of anesthetics used and the protocols for monitoring anesthesia.  Not all clinics use the more modern anesthetics and monitors.  All of our surgical patients have a dedicated monitor and anesthetist for the procedure.  We use only the most modern anesthetics and focus on pain relief pre and post operatively.  We encourage preanesthetic bloodwork and the placement of an intravenous catheter for intraoperative fluid support for all patients and require it for seniors or long procedures.

The use of short acting anesthetics enables us to safely discharge pets here for neuter or spay surgery to return home the same day, which provides less stress for the pet and owner alike

Pain Management and Control
We know the issues of pain management is of great concern to pet owners today.  As in human medicine, we have a variety of medications available to manage your pet's pain both before and after surgery and in the event of trauma.  We would be pleased to discuss the options available to you and your pet under any of the above circumstances.
